Michael Ban is a Principal leading the National Private Wealth Services (PWS) practice at Grant Thornton focusing on tax consulting and compliance for domestic and global high net worth clients. Mike has over 20 years of experience advising clients in the areas of income tax, financial planning, trust & estate planning as well as working extensively with philanthropic counseling and investment advisory. Mike’s clients have included representation from a broad range of industry channels including financial services, consulting, sports & entertainment, real estate, technology and family owned businesses. The profile of Mike’s clients have ranged from mature multi-generational family groups to emerging business entrepreneurs, global executives and celebrities, providing a wide range of experience advising clients on complicated issues through various stages of wealth.Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Mike was a Partner in the Personal Financial Services (PFS) practice at Ernst & Young in New York City focusing on tax and consulting for domestic and global clients in the hedge fund and private equity arena. Previous to Ernst & Young, Mike was a Managing Director at UBS Financial Services within the Wealth Management area where he focused on developing the firm’s global private client platform. In this role, Mike was focused on integrating tax, estate and other planning techniques with investment advisory and banking relationships.
Mike was also the head of insurance, annuities and compliance as well as the President of the UBS Life Insurance Company. Additionally, Mike was on the board of Directors for the UBS Trust Company. Prior to UBS, Mike was the head of the Merrill Lynch Family Office and began his career in tax at Arthur Andersen in New York City.
