James Hughes

Executive summary

James Hughes is a partner in Grant Thornton’s Federal Tax Services Group and leads the Financial Services Tax practice in Southern California. Backed by the global resources of a leading firm, Hughes brings to each engagement a comprehensive knowledge of tax codes and regulations, as well as a keen ability to apply consistent tax methodologies in order to aid his clients in achieving increased tax-efficiency. 

Throughout his 14-year career in public accounting, which includes time spent at both Arthur Andersen and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Hughes has consulted on a wide variety of corporate tax matters. His experience includes advising clients on accounting methods, corporate reorganizations, M&As, accounting for income taxes and accounting for uncertain tax positions (ASC 740), and evaluating individual and state tax planning opportunities.
