Tariq Mirza

Tariq Mirza is principal of the Regulatory & Compliance Risk practice and leads Grant Thornton’s Regulatory Center of Excellence. He specializes in bank regulatory and consulting services, and has 25 years of financial services experience. Since joining Grant Thornton, Mirza has been involved in many large and complex banking and financial services engagements, and has played a key role in engagements involving some of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. and globally. Recently, Mirza has advised clients with supervisory enforcement actions involving mortgage lending and servicing; risk management; credit cards; prepaid cards; information security and privacy; third-party risk management; and unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices. He recently served as a resolution planning and fair lending subject matter expert for two of the largest banks in the U.S.Prior to joining Grant Thornton in 2012, Mirza served in various roles at the FDIC for more than 22 years. He has extensive experience in bank supervision and examination policy, regulatory enforcement actions, compliance/consumer protection, corporate governance, strategic planning, bank mergers and acquisitions, resolutions and receiverships, loan servicing, loss mitigation, and FDIC loss-share programs. Mirza has experience in numerous high-profile leadership roles including serving as senior adviser to the office of the chairman at the FDIC from 2008 to 2011. Previously, he served as acting chief of compliance policy and examinations, acting deputy regional director, field supervisor of compliance, and bank examiner, and has led numerous corporatewide initiatives and high-profile special projects.
